Senior II Squad

Here is a photo of the Senior 1/ Senior 2 group of swimmers who traveled to The Sterling YMCA- (North Shore) Mass. for the weekend of May 21-23rd – The group included around 30 -35 Wahoos from Senior 1 and Senior2 squads – Chaperones where Tony and Lori DeLise, Elizabeth Britt and Camille Gilroy , Coaches Todd Stevens and Joann McCaffrey also attended.
The trip was an opportunity for Senior 1 and Senior 2 swimmers to travel, train and compete at another YMCA site along side the North Shore YMCA Tiger sharks who was the host team for the weekend’s competition. Practices for both teams commenced at an early hour each day followed by a pancake breakfast that was put on by the parents of the North Shore YMCA Team. A total of 13,000 meters encompassed the training between the two days. The competition offered distance events which began at 4:00pm each afternoon.
Overall, the coaches felt that this new experience was a wonderful opportunity for those swimmers who attended and we would likely try to do something similar in the future. The North shore YMCA team will be attending our upcoming meet in late June- the popular AA invitational and the senior qualifier. We look forward to re-connecting with our training friends when they visit The Wilton Family YMCA on June 18-20th, 2010.

10 Commandments for Swimming Parents

by Rose Snyder, Managing Director Coaching Division, USOC Former Director of Club Services, USA Swimming (adapted from Ed Clendaniel's 10 Commandments for Little League Parents)

I. Thou shalt not impose thy ambitions on thy child. Remember that swimming is your child's activity. Improvements and progress occur at different rates for each individual. Don't judge your child's progress based on the performance of other athletes and don't push him based on what you think he should be doing. The nice thing about swimming is every person can strive to do his personal best and benefit from the process of competitive swimming.

II. Thou shalt be supportive no matter what. There is only one question to ask your child after a practice or a competition - "Did you have fun?" If meets and practices are not fun, your child should not be forced to participate.
